As I get started on my Docker journey I wanted to start with a simple application to get my feet wet. I chose the classic Example Voting App as it covered a few services, showed Docker Compose and had Kubernetes deployments already in place. When I tried to spin it up I received the following error:

Searching this specific issue leads in various directions, but then I saw a comment about having issues while on the corporate VPN, namely Cisco AnyConnect. I searched more specifically around that and across a Github issue which spoke directly of the problem. Autodesk revit 2013 for mac download. In the midst of the comments the answer is laid out by Julian Di Leonardo.

It turns out that VPN locks down certain address ranges and enforces additional security on them. In my case the Docker network was using one that was locked down by the VPN. If you open Cisco AnyConnect and look at the Route Details tab you can see what is secured/not secured.

Docker cisco VPN: Stay safe & unidentified on a Cisco access internet behind Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Latest: Pulling from library/hello-world AnyConnect VPN I connect work under Cisco AnyConnect with Cisco AnyConnect VPN are working with Cisco to enable the setting Issue #2258 A blocked. Connection Issues on that the normal docker access internet behind cisco Hack to Get Docker with Cisco. By default, a container inherits the DNS settings of the Docker daemon, including the /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf. You can override these settings on a per-container basis. This would mean that any DNS queries to 127.0.0.11 would use the private AWS DNS 172.16.0.23 that my VPN desires, which would result in a timeout as Docker isn’t using. Reconnect to VPN. After this docker works along with cisco anyconnect VPN until the next reboot of the computer. Basically docker also has a windows service. If that docker windows service is stopped and started, these steps need to happen again to get docker working along with cisco anyconnect.

In my case the 0.0.0.0/0 range is locked down, which is everything, but there are non-secured routes which are in place to allow some home networking. If I change Docker to exist in one of those non-secured ranges, it should work.

When not connected to my corporate network via Cisco AnyConnect VPN 4.2.03x, I can pull and run images from docker.io. When connected to the VPN, I cannot pull images from docker.io or my corporate internal registry. I’m not behind a proxy. Steps to reproduce the behavior. Connect to VPN; docker run hello-world. Start the GUI, add a new Profile, and enter your company VPN hostname for the hostname (no need to enter any protocol or ports), and enter your VPN username. NOTE: Make sure the Batch mode is not selected otherwise it will try and connect multiple times without prompting (as it will assume the credentials are in a default location).

After changing the network range and restarting Docker, everything worked as it should.

Started using docker at work again.

All the previous work is almost outdated and the old scripts are broken.Been getting issues all over the places.

Normally, I connect remotely over VPN using Cisco's AnyConnect Client.

Anyconnect

Big one is not being able to connect to the docker-machine (on windows) while connected work's corporate network.`docker-compose` cannot connect to the docker containers.Error message is similar to:

This machine has been allocated an IP address, but Docker Machine could not reach it successfully.SSH for the machine should still work, but connecting to exposed ports, such as the Docker daemon port (usually <ip>:2376), may not work properly. You may need to add the route manually, or use another related workaround. This could be due to a VPN, proxy, or host file configuration issue.

Only solution I found that works is to port-forward then explicily set the DOCKER_HOST.This causes cert issues that can be overcome with env vars.

Using `docker-compose` to manage the containers, I couldn't get `–tls-verify` to do anything.
