© Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports Saleh proved a lot of things in 2020: He knows how to get the most out of his players even in the wake of adversity, he's just as energetic on the sideline during a lost season, and his players remain committed to him. For the second consecutive offseason, Sherman advocated for teams to hire Saleh. He would be a good fit for the Jets considering his defensive acumen. Saleh would help deploy defensive stars like C.J. Mosley and develop young studs like Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Myers. Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported last offseason that Saleh would attempt to bring either 49ers run game coordinator Mike McDaniel or pass game coordinator Mike LaFleur on as offensive coordinator. McDaniel and LaFleur were instrumental in Shanahan’s offensive gameplan, which included incredible utilization of multiple running backs and maximizing Jimmy Garoppolo during their Super Bowl run.

Robert Saleh will be the 20th coach in Jets history.

Saleh comes to New York after spending the last four seasons as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator. In San Francisco’s Super Bowl run in 2019, Saleh’s defense allowed the fewest passing yards per game (169.2 yards) in the NFL since the 2009 Jets allowed 153.7. His defense also ranked second in the NFL in total yards per game (281.8 yards),which was the fewest for the 49ers since 1997 when they allowed 250.8.

Even with injuries in 2020, Saleh’s Niners defense still finished the 2020 season fifth in yards allowed, fourth in passing yards allowed, and seventh in rushing yards allowed. Now the Jets are hoping Saleh can lead an entire team in the right direction.
